General Information:
Four+ Year Career Planning has moved to Google Sheets!
Secondary students, 7th grade and above, begin developing their educational and career plans in Idaho’s Career Information system. This year, their plans, (now known as Educational Career Action Plans or ECAP), will be saved in Google sheets so that they are easily stored for year to year editing and sharing with parents and the counselor. Students can track their high school diploma pathway, AA degree or AC certificate progression, career inventory results, college searches, and scholarship awards all from one site.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT/SKILLS PROGRAMS
Currently, VCS is piloting junior/senior level students taking CWI Workforce Development programs like Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, and short-term welding classes. We hope to expand the opportunities in the future - STAY TUNED! **NEW for next year is the piloting of two senior students participating in the automotive program at CWI. It is exciting to see the ability for VCS students to access career-specific programs and industry-skilled certifications keep growing. Special APPRECIATION to Mrs. OldenKamp for making this happen in the automotive department.

- Fall IDLA class registration begins May 1st! If you have indicated you would like to take an IDLA class this fall, please look at available classes and submit an IDLA enrollment form to Mrs. Clark. Classes can fill quickly, so register this spring!
- Driver’s Education @ Thomas Jefferson this summer. Parent/Student Info night is Tuesday, May 1st at 6:00pm in Thomas Jefferson’s Room 106. Students must have their permit to enroll in the class. Fast Forward funds can be used to cover the cost of the class of $185.00!! Please see Mrs. Clark in the main office for more information.
- Registration for FALL 2018 and SUMMER 2018 CWI class REGISTRATION CONTINUES! On-campus/online from CWI class registration is through PAPER forms available in the main office. Instructions for registering is HERE. Students should have created their CWI accounts prior to registering (different then dual enroll accounts) to have access to the most current class offerings for summer and fall. Parents and students can call or email Dr. Dowski for individual appts. to register for classes or review students’ AA, AC or high school progression. You do NOT have to be pursuing an AA or AC to take on-campus classes. Some students take classes that will assist them in exploring topics of interest.

- Summer Internship (paid) at the Idaho National Laboratory in eastern Idaho - closes 4/27/18
- An INL internship is a great way for students to gain life and work experience. Students get paid to participate in projects under the guidance of mentors who are experts in their fields.
- During their eight-week internship, students help solve real-world problems under the guidance of INL experts and learn to apply science, mathematics, engineering and technology (STEM) concepts on specific projects. This deepens their knowledge in this critical area while reinforcing and complimenting what they are learning in high school.
- An INL internship builds confidence and introduces students to fields they may want to consider studying in college.

- Idaho Conservation Corps Youth Corps Camping programs combine education, job skill training with outdoor adventure for ages 16 to 18*. Under staff supervision, youth crew members work on conservation, reforestation, and recreation projects, and learn valuable lessons of teamwork and responsibility. Crews camp in the field for several weeks, traveling from project to project. Youth gain a sense of pride that comes with hard work and a job well done. Through education, youth learn to respect and protect the environment in which they live.
- $225 fee can be covered through the use of student’s Fast Forward funds for one HS elective credit

- 8th grade parents and students (future 9th graders) were invited to an evening discussion on HS registration and four-year planning. Thank you parents and students for coming!
- 9th-11th grade parents and students will have an after-school training as well in the near future. We are updating student plans and will then share the updated plans with parents for review. The ECAP link from my website is for student use to create their own personal plan.

- This online resource is a good starting-point for locating a therapist in your neighborhood or local town. You can search by issue, insurance, etc.
- You can also contact your insurance company for a list of therapists who accept your insurance.
- Idaho’s Department of Health & Welfare also can provide links to services for adults and children.
