dON'T WAIT!Every year, students miss the opportunity to register for dual credit classes as they miss deadlines. The opportunity is now! Fall registration for CWI (fall semester classes only), BSU (fall and year-long classes), and NNU (fall and year-long classes) is now active and will go until 9/25/2020. The last day is 9/25/2020. If you wait until then, you may miss out on this opportunity. DETAILS HERE!
Student requests for a class change BEFORE SCHOOL will be considered during the time period listed below above (8/12/2020-8/19/2020 @ 11:59pm)
Change requests will be made via this "Course Request Change" form. Middle School High School A list of "open classes" for possible changes are posted on Dr. Dowski's web site: www.visioncsdcounselor.weebly.com Please remember that requests for changes are not guaranteed and not all classes will be available for enrollment. Once school starts, class change requests will be considered during the FIRST few days of school only, 8/26-8/29/2020. General Schedule Information: If you note an error in your schedule, you may email Dr. Dowski and the error may be corrected prior to the beginning of school if possible. (An example of an error is a missing core class like math or English, two scheduled math classes, a senior level student who has not taken Health and is not scheduled to do so, an 8th grade student who has not taken MS Health or PE and is not scheduled to do so, etc.) Please remember that some classes may have been added to a student's schedule per teacher recommendation, per a student's priority choices, or due to availability of classes. All MS students must have a semester of PE and Health by end of 8th grade. Please note that support classes are inserted into your schedule to assist the student in success in core classes. ONLY ELECTIVE COURSES ARE ABLE TO BE REQUESTED TO CHANGE. (For MS, that includes non-support, elective classes in periods 2, 4, and 7) "See Counselor Study Hall" = a class has not yet been selected for that time period and the counselor will offer virtual office time prior to the beginning of school to discuss options or discuss via email. Students can schedule an office time at https://visioncounselordowski.youcanbook.me/ "Tutoring Practicum" = These sections are for students who have requested to assist teachers in the classroom. Due to the first semester (Fall) being distance learning, assisting teachers will be limited. TUTORING PLACEMENTS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MADE as of 8/12/2020. Teachers will have until 8/14/2020 to make selections. PLEASE DO NOT contact individual teachers to ask for a placement. HAVING A TA PERIOD IN YOUR SCHEDULE ON 8/12/2020 DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU HAVE AN ASSIGNMENT. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED ON 8/15/2020 IF YOU NEED TO SELECT A DIFFERENT CLASS FOR THAT PERIOD. STUDENTS SELECTED BY TEACHERS MAY RECEIVE AN INVITATION TO THE TEACHER'S EDMODO CLASSROOM (FYI). It is anticipated that very few TAs will be selected for a virtual assignment. However, VCS has added some additional independent electives that might interest you as a replacement (see website). "No Scheduled Course" (8th Grade students) = change calendar to high school in the portal and any HS classes will appear in the new HS calendar. Transfer students and parents: Please contact the main office on or after August 4th if you would like assistance setting up your Infinite Campus portal. Please set up a time with Dr. Dowski if you would like to discuss schedules, HS academic tracks, etc. https://visioncounselordowski.youcanbook.me/ IDLA FALL Registration: If you are scheduled to take an IDLA class and have not yet registered for the fall class, please email Dr. Dowski to discuss classes to complete the paperwork to enroll prior to the beginning of the school year. Class selection will diminish as the summer progresses towards the first day of school and it is recommended that you register early. You can look at available courses at www.idahodigitallearning.org PERIOD CHANGES: Due to changes in the schedule to accommodate distance learning, periods have changed. What used to be period 1A now is labeled 1; period 1B is now labeled period 2; what was period 2 now = period 3, and so forth. There are seven periods per day. IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!

FSU Encourages High-Achieving Students to Get 'More in Four'By Amy Farnum-Patronis More than ever, students are pursuing college-level courses in high school, allowing them to finish their undergraduate degrees in record time. Now, Florida State University is offering these high-achieving students an opportunity to participate in “More in Four,” a new program for those who want to maximize their four-year college investment by graduating with a bachelor’s degree in three years and then advancing into one of FSU’s 120-plus graduate programs. “Our research indicates that students who challenge themselves with a rigorous curriculum in high school are better prepared for the rigor they will face at Florida State,” said John Barnhill, associate vice president for Enrollment Management. “They have higher GPAs, and they graduate in four years or less. More in Four recognizes their hard work in high school and provides them a unique opportunity to leave the university with more than a bachelor’s degree.” FSU admits a large number of first-year college students who have earned college credit in high school through Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge AICE Diploma Credits (AICE) or dual enrollment in state or community college programs. Some students have even earned an associate degree before arriving at Florida State. And, enrolling these high-achieving students is one reason why Florida State University just set a record for the best four-year graduation rate in State University System of Florida history. “FSU is committed to providing a challenging and formative educational experience for all of our students,” said Assistant Provost Joe O’Shea. “Increasingly, students are coming to FSU with significant levels of college credit from high school, and More in Four is designed to ensure they have opportunities to take full advantage of that credit by building in graduate education as part of their FSU experience.” Taking courses at the graduate level can enrich a student’s educational experience, sharpen their research skills, improve their resume and help them move toward their post-graduation goals. Students who participate in the More in Four program are offered specialized advising and support through the Graduation Planning and Strategies Office while they work toward a bachelor’s degree and explore their best options for graduate study. In addition to master’s programs, FSU also offers graduate certificate programs that are a good option for helping students achieve their career and professional goals. More in Four participants also receive degree program plans and priority registration through their participation in the Degree in Three program, allowing them to register for courses in the earliest registration window. Most importantly, More in Four participants can take full advantage of their financial aid benefits, such as Bright Futures, to help with graduate school tuition. And, earning a master’s degree means they’ll be able to enter higher-salaried positions that require advanced degrees sooner. Students who receive a master’s degree can expect to earn about $400,000 more in lifetime income than those with only a bachelor’s degree, according to Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce. In addition, graduate school provides students the opportunity to dive deeper into the subjects they are passionate about and network with professionals in their field. Affordability and the opportunity to accelerate her career are what attracted aspiring social worker Avory Billman to pursue More in Four. Billman, a native of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, arrived at Florida State in 2017 as a first-time college student who had earned an associate degree in high school. This summer, Billman graduated with her bachelor’s degree in social work, and now she’s studying for her Master of Social Work. “I was paying out-of-state tuition at first, so it was a big deal for me to get my bachelor’s degree as quickly as I did,” Billman said. “Also, I really want to be in the field, and I can’t do that without my education. This is giving me a jumpstart because I’m really close to being able to practice.” For more information on More in Four, visit https://gps.fsu.edu/more-in-four.
